Some exciting baby news from two good friends: Michael Brown and Brian Smith.

On Friday, August 31st, Julia gave birth to Gordon Vincent Brown a strapping lad at 8 lbs 10 oz. I’m sure young Gordy will have an awesome life! After all, his dad was the filmmaker with me on Everest and has made many awesome films including High Ground. And Gordy’s mom owns the South Side Walnut Cafe, one of the best breakfast and lunch spots in Boulder.

And my friend Brian, who has been a huge supporter of Soldiers To Summits, recently sent me this note:

Well, after years of trying, I’m happy to tell you that I’m finally going to know what it’s like to have a child of my own. Shari is two months pregnant and is due at the end of March. We are ecstatic and wanted you to know first because we’ve decided to name him or her after you; Erik if it’s a boy and Erika if it’s a girl. Rather than just picking a name, we wanted to name our child after someone really special…someone that does far more for others than for himself. Years from now, we want to be able to say “We named you after an amazing guy that has done some amazing things – we dare you to do better!” Your accomplishments would be hard for anyone to best, but I’m sure that learning about you will be an inspiration to try.

To say that I am humbled is a huge understatement! Thank you Brian and Shari and best wishes!
